God is the Answer.

“This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His son cleanses us from all sin.” (I John 1: 5-7)

In these few verses of scripture, I would like to draw your attention to the phrase God is light. What is it that comes to mind when you read this? Exactly right, the scripture says that God is light, which means that if He is light, then He provides us with the ability to see things that we ordinarily would have missed or not even considered as the right choice. In fact, the Aramaic word for light refers to the word Luminary, which means someone who sheds light on some subject or enlightens mankind.  Let’s take a closer look at this.

In the book of St. John chapter one, verses 1-5, we can read the following “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God.  He was in the beginning with God.  All things were made through Him, and without Him was nothing made that was made.  In Him was life and the life was the light of men.  And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”  Earlier we noted that the word light can also be referred to the word luminary which is someone who sheds light on some subject or enlightens mankind.  Now to enlighten means to reveal truths to an individual or a group, similar to what a teacher or professor would do.  Having said that, I would like to draw one thought from the two references and that thought being God is the answer to every problem plaguing mankind.  Yes, I know you’ve heard this one before, but I believe that after reading this article and meditationg on what has been said, you are going to come away with a whole new perspective.

If we could go back to the phrase in 1 John, God is light, and substitute the definition of luminary for the word light and change the word or to and,  it would read “God is someone who sheds light on some subject and enlightens mankind.”  Now remember, to enlighten means to reveal truths to an individual or a group.  So God is someone who can teach on any subject and reveal truths to mankind.  And He has done this, and continues to do this, through His son Jesus Christ.

Now if we were to look back at all of St. John chapter 1:1-5, then we could verify this for ourselves.  In verses 1-3, we find that Jesus, who is the word of God by the way, was used to create everything we know of, both the natural and spiritual realms.  He was there at the beginning of time actively taking part in creation.  Therefore, if He created it then He should also have an understanding of how it should be used.  “Well, what does this have to do with me?” you might say.  Simple, what obstacle is before you that you can’t seem to overcome?  Are you a new parent and are wondering how to take care of your newborn?  Did you and your spouse just recently get married and are concerned about starting out on your own?  Or maybe you lost a loved one and are wondering how to continue or start over?  God is the answer and through His son Jesus, we can enjoy a relationship with Him that is not subject to time of day or seasons of the year.  God is more than qualified to be a “luminary,” in fact the definition for luminary should just read “God!”
